LASIK
A thin corneal flap is created; visual recovery is faster, with minimal discomfort.
PRK
No flap is created; ideal for thinner corneas; recovery is a bit more gradual.
Generally speaking, LASIK tends to be preferred for its faster, more comfortable recovery, while PRK is the recommended option when the cornea is too thin for a flap, or when a patient's lifestyle carries a higher risk of eye trauma (contact sports, for example, where a flap could shift).
